Spinal Stenosis

What is spinal stenosis?

Spinal Stenosis is a condition where the spinal column narrows and compresses the spinal cord. The most common reason for spinal stenosis is because of aging, but it can also be caused by spinal injury. For most people, the stenosis results from changing because of arthritis. This injury can last up to several months and even years but to prevent the condition from lasting it’s best to get some treatment. Some people don’t have symptoms for spinal stenosis but usually it affects your neck or lower back, symptoms include numbness, stiffness, and back pain.

How can I treat it?

If you start feeling pain and can’t make it to a chiropractor, start with doing some light stretches and exercises. The best stretch is to lie down on your back and put your knees to your chest. Another way you can lessen the pain is by doing some heat compression or putting an ice pack on your back. Not only does this help relieve the pain but it also prevents swelling.
